The first moonwalkers were some of the best dancers of all time. My belief that Micheal Jackson was not the first to moonwalk is proved by this video of all the true greats of dance. My favorite is Cab Calloway, the hi de ho man himself. My faviorte movie is Stormy Weather. Some of the best in dance and song in one movie.

My First Sweater

This is the pattern that I choose to make my first knitted sweater. The Central Park Hoodie. This is a most popular pattern as so many knitters have made it. I have found so many blogs of knitters that have made it. One blog is devoted just to this sweater. You can find that blog here: www.cphkal.blogspot.com. Thank goodness for blogs. I was introduced to a new yarn store in NYC about 2 saturdays ago called Seaport Yarn. I was telling the owner I wanted to make a sweater for the first time. I explained it should be easy as I'm still a beginner. She showed me patterns that I could choose from but nothing caught my eyes. She directed me to patterns that were for plus size woman which I am. I finally picked a pattern and found yarn. I have to admit that the sweater was not what I really was looking for. It had cables which I liked, but it was not the style I was looking for I guess. Anyway, I got home and started looking online and found the Central Park Hoodie.
The good thing is I found the yarn at seaport yarns. The yarn I'm using a Aussi Wool worsted weight in color golden harvest. I was told by the sales girl at seaport yarn to make a switch which I did. I'm using size 6 and 8 needles. So yesterday I started my sweater. So far I'm still on the ribbing. So, I'll be going now so I can get started again. I want to get to the cables before tonight. If I need help I can stop by the shop for the help.

Learning New Things in Knitting

I just love a good learning experiance. The Lion Brand Studio is just such a place. Last Sunday I took another class and learned how to knit a Lace Beanie. The pink is what I made in class. My sister likes the pink with only 3 repeats of the lace pattern. It should have 4 total lace repeats. The gray has 5 repeats so it will go over my braids, but I don't like how it looks on me with my braids. So I'll use 4 repeats so it will can go over my ears.
My niece-in-law wants one in pink. The yarn is Lion Brand Cotton Ease. This yarn goes a long way. I'm still using the pink and this is my second hat. I really don't think I'll be able to get 3 hats, but I will try. I can always use the gray with the pink if I run out. No need to buy another pink unless I want to make something else with it.
Learning how to knit lace was not that hard. I really thought it was going to be difficult with the yo and all. The hardest part was making it on 4 dpn. How I dislike dpn. So much so that I use a circular needle to make my lace beanies. I use the magic loop method. Who was to know that magic loop was such an invaluable technique in my knitting repertoire. LBS taught me the magic loop method when I took their sock knitting class. Well, I have to go now, I have a hat to finish and I need to work on my socks.

Hand Knit Socks

How do I express the joy I feel at finishing my very first pair of socks. This first pair were a joy to knit. It took me about 2 weeks to knit the pair. I can't see making one than the other. Taking a class at the Lion Brand Studio was the best money I've spent. This class taught me so much. Right now all I can do is a basic sock, but I'll be trying some new things. Here are my socks. The pink is not a pair, just the one. I'm not so fond of super fine yarns so I'm not going to make the second one just yet.
Because I don't like super fine yarn I now double the yarn. That's what I've done on the pair I'm making now. I'm making them for my dad. Did I say I love making socks. Socks are not that hard to make. I'm still having trouble catching on to the Kitchener stitch. I started a pair for my dad. He will just love them. For dads sock I'm using Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine yarn. I doubled the yarn. I'm using a size 2 circular needle. The yellow green are a cashmere merino silk dk. These socks knitted up very fast. I used a size 4 needle. I'm sure my feet will be very warm.

Hats, Hats and More Hats

Well, only one more hat. I love this hat. This pattern was easy to follow and finished up quickly. I did have to sleep on one or two steps, but was able to figure it out at the end. The pattern said: *K1, kfb, rep from * to end of rnd (156).
Work in St st (knit all rnds) for 30 rnds. Does that mean K1 than knit 1fb or K1Kfb?
I took it to mean k1,than k1fb. It gave me the number of stitches I needed so that is good. There are about 3 or 4 mistakes which is not so bad. I have to say I'm getting much better at fixing my mistakes too. Can you believe I got to the very last wound and dropped stitches. I pulled out my crochet needle and did a really good fix. Do I see a sweater in the making one day? Well here is my new hat. So what's next? Well, another hat. The Mod Cable Hat pattern was just to confusion to me. I'll find another pattern with cables to make. Until next time. Knit On

Yet Another Hat (Knitted)

Yes, another hat. The same pattern as before but yet a much better hat. My need to understand fit and how to read this pattern is what kept me going. My first hat was way too big. My second was alot better, but still needed work. Because I didn't make a gauge swatch I had to rely on the hats that didn't work. I was able to get the CO numbers at the right number for my yarn and needle. I know doing a gauge swatch is alot less painful in the long run, but I just didn't for this pattern. I will be
making a gauge test of future projects. Test Test Test. So here is my new hat and here is the pattern with the changes I made. This pattern can now be pulled out and remade. I know what yarn and needle I used so that is a start.
I'm so glad I took the time to really learn how to knit. I want to make so many things now. I still have the two scarves that need finishing. I think I will try a cable pattern. The pattern is the Mod Cables Hat by Jeanne (Sourire11). The pattern is at www.lifeincleveland.blogspot.com. Will post when I finish.
This pattern seems easy enough for me the beginner. After this hat is done I won't be calling myself a beginner.

Another Knit Hat

Another knit hat under my belt. The patten was easy to follow. If I take learning to read knit and crochet patterns slowly I just might get threw something a little bit harder than what I've been able to follow so far. I want to try my hand at a cable knit hat after I pratice somemore with this hat pattern. Here is my finished hat. I'm liking this hat more and more. I'll be using lighter weight yarns as the weather will be warmer before you know it.
